Academic Opportunity: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity in Gender, War, and Russian Culture (Apply by July 20)

Researchers interested in applying for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA PF) are invited to submit an expression of interest to work with scholars involved in the project Revealing Official and Alternative Gender Discourses: Women’s (Self) Representations in Russia’s Wars, 1914–2024, hosted at the University of Turku, Finland. The fellowship duration is between one and two years.

The project strives to demonstrate the cultural-historical interconnection between female images in different wars waged by Russia during the last century and their impact on current Russian aggression in Ukraine. Further information about the project is available on the EC2U Partner Universities website: https://ec2u.eu/researchers/uncover-new-opportunities (Social Sciences and Humanities > University of Turku), and on the project website: https://sites.utu.fi/women-russia-wars/.

We particularly welcome applications from researchers working on late Soviet and post-Soviet history, literature, film, or cultural studies, especially those whose research engages with the memory and representation of the Second World War, the Soviet-Afghan War, or the Chechen Wars.

Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme. In particular, candidates must hold a PhD and have no more than eight years of research experience after the award of their doctoral degree. In addition, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Finland for more than 12 months during the 36 months immediately preceding the call deadline.

As MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships are highly competitive and require substantial preparation, prospective applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the program in advance. To express your interest, please contact Principal Investigator Olga Simonova (oasimo@utu.fi) by July 20, 2026, and include a curriculum vitae (maximum three pages) and a research proposal (maximum two pages) outlining your proposed fellowship project and its relevance to the host project.
