The only program of its kind in North America, the Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute (HUSI) offers seven weeks of intensive accredited university instruction in Ukrainian studies. The program is run jointly by the Harvard Summer School and the Ukrainian Research Institute and has been in existence since 1971. Students can take advantage of Harvard’s many research and instructional facilities, including the largest Ucrainica library collection outside of Eastern Europe, museums, and a language resource center. In the past HUSI participants have included undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals from North and South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe including Ukraine.
This summer, the Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute is offering the following courses:
State-Society Relations in Modern Ukraine with Sophia Wilson (4 credits)
Tradition and Modernity in Ukraine, 19th and 20th Centuries with Serhiy Bilenky (4 credits)
Ukrainian for Reading Knowledge with Volodymyr Dibrova (8 credits)
The only program of its kind in North America, HUSI is designed for graduate and advanced undergraduate students. Students typically take 8 credits: either the
language course or two subject courses. Limited financial assistance is available.
