Culture and Politics in Prague
Faculty-led study abroad program
Dates: June 3-30, 2018
Courses: Post-Communist Politics (3 cr.), Peoples & Cultures of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union (3 cr.). Total of 6 upper-division credits from UW-La Crosse.
Description: Our aim with this 4- week program is to integrate course topics and activities, providing students multiple perspectives on modern political, social, economic, and cultural concerns, all while experiencing daily life in Prague. In addition to class meetings, we will have excursions to local sites, including a tours of the Jewish Quarter and a bomb shelter, visits to the Museum of Communism and the Ethnographic Museum, and a trip to a local NGO. Course assignments include a reflective journal and mini-activities to encourage students to experience local culture.
The program includes two upper-division courses that count as electives at UWL in anthropology, political science, international studies, and the Russian certificate. Students will earn 6 undergraduate credits if they take both courses offered. Though we primarily serve UWL students, we highly encourage students at other UW system campuses and at other US universities to contact us for details.
