Description: Part-time position as a student assistant to the Slavic, East European, Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies Bibliographer in Memorial Library. Must be able to commit to between 5-10 hours per week. Work study eligibility preferred but not required while enrolled as a student at the University of WI-Madison.
The Slavic Bibliographer’s primary focus is primarily in collection development.
As the subject area encompasses Eastern Europe, the successful applicant should have a strong interest in Eastern Europe, and at the minimum, reading knowledge of at least one Cyrillic-alphabet Slavic language (Russian, Serbian, Ukrainian, Belarusian or Bulgarian) and the ability to distinguish on sight between these languages. The applicant should be familiar with the standard LC/ALA Romanization schema for these languages. The applicant will also occasionally be working with materials in other languages of the region such as for example Polish, Hungarian, Latvian and Azeri. An academic background in a discipline of East European humanities and/or East European social sciences is preferred.
Main duties include processing East European gift and exchange books and serials and assisting with preparing lists of English language books to be offered to East European libraries as part of our Slavic Exchange program.
Start date is immediately, to continue through the remainder of this fiscal year. Note the current fiscal year ends June 30, 2017. Work hours are negotiable, but a regular agreed upon schedule is required.
