Job: Associate Director, Language Institute (UW-Madison)

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of the top universities in the nation for language education and research. The UW-Madison Language Institute promotes and supports collaborative efforts at UW-Madison and with external partners in education, research, advising, and outreach related to the teaching and learning of languages. Through its support of interdisciplinary academic programs, programming for faculty, staff and students, professional development for instructional staff, student pre-major and career advising, K-12 and community outreach, research, and other projects in areas such as curriculum development, the Language Institute serves an intellectual and administrative home on the UW-Madison campus for collaborative initiatives in languages that cross departmental and/or disciplinary boundaries.

The Language Institute Associate Director provides leadership and support in advancing the Language Institute’s mission by developing and managing Language Institute programs, projects, and grants; overseeing the Language Institute’s professional development programs for instructional staff; supervising Language Institute staff; managing the Language Institute’s daily operations and budget; and representing the Director and Language Institute on and off-campus, as appropriate.

Basic Requirements:

  • PhD preferred, ABD required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in U.S. postsecondary foreign language program administration, teaching, assessment, and/or research.
  • Experience in the development of collaborative language programs; design and implementation of professional development programs for instructional staff in languages; preparation and management of extramural grants.
  • Experience in budget management strongly preferred.

Compensation: $55,000 minimum
