Job Summary:
The International Division is the central convener and leader of campus-wide international programming and engagement at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The International Division supports international faculty, staff, and students on campus, as well as academic programs, internships, research, and partnerships abroad. The division is a resource for campus, the city of Madison, and the state, reinforcing the university’s position as a top global institution and ensuring students are prepared to engage in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. This position works under direction of Assistant Dean, International Strategy & Partnerships and in partnership with International Relations Manager (IRM) to strengthen international and domestic partnerships.
Responsibilities:
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
- 30% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
- 20% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
- 15% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
- 10% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
- 10% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
- 5% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
- 10% Other duties as assigned
Tasks:
- Provide guidance to and support UW-Madison units interested in developing international collaborations and programs with UW-Madison (UW).
- Negotiate/facilitate effective international partnership agreements to support academic and research initiatives in accordance with campus/Univ of WI policies and procedures. The development of these partnerships involves coordination with campus.
- Support faculty and staff in implementing collaborative projects and programs outlined in partnership agreements, and representing the interest of the university to international partners as needed.
- Serve as primary contact for several community-based partners interested in engaging with the International Division.
- Develop itineraries and manage logistics for inbound and outbound visits and delegations, with attention to protocol and appropriate intercultural practices.
- Serve as contact for inbound international visitors, interacting with and accompanying visitors before, during, and after their time at UW-Madison.
- Prepare briefing notes for senior administrators and all other necessary visit components to ensure that visitors have an exceptional experience at UW while UW goals and interests are maintained as primary.
- Connect overseas partners and/or community organizations to relevant campus units and vice-versa.
- Develop opportunities for faculty and staff to learn about and connect to international opportunities through special events, roundtable discussions, campus presentations, etc.
- In coordination with other External Relations and ID staff, pro-actively seek out and engage faculty who are connected internationally to build/document collaborative partnerships.
- Produce and circulate briefing documents (country and/or institutional profiles).
- Support International Relations Manager to collect relevant information, analyze trends, synthesize information, create reports, and use this information to help guide partnership decisions.
- Evaluates existing partnerships, minimally on an annual basis, and recommends changes, expansions or discontinuation of agreements as appropriate.
- Keep accurate records and document interactions using internal standard procedures.

Skills:
Required: Interpersonal and intercultural skills. Scheduling experience. Analytical approach. Diplomacy. Attention to detail. Demonstrated organizational skills, with both paper and electronic records. Editing abilities, both for content as well as grammar and visual appearance. Relational database skills.
Preferred: Demonstrated ability to review and/or draft clear legal and/or policy documents. Outcome assessment skills. Expertise in managing logistics. Foreign language proficiency is valued.
Experience:
Required: Experience in a position involving global affairs or international engagement. Experience analyzing and compiling information from various sources to present complex information to facilitate decision-making. Experience with cultural protocols and intercultural differences. Experience in or familiarity with higher education institutions. Database experience.
Preferred: Experience with international contract negotiation/management and understanding of business principles. Project management experience to manage workflow processes and project delivery methods. Grant/contract/agreement writing experience. Demonstrated use of QS Unisolutions MoveOn database. Experience negotiating with individuals from other countries or linguistic backgrounds. Experience preparing for and working with international visitors or delegations and visits abroad. Experience working productively with faculty and staff on complex matters.
Knowledge Requirements:
Required: Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills to effectively work with acumen and diplomacy in handling sensitive or difficult situations, either independently or within a team environment. Knowledge of development and coordination of education abroad, exchanges, international training, and mobility trends. Familiarity with worldwide systems of higher education.
Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of cultural competencies, etiquette, and protocol. Familiarity with UW-Madison policies and procedures.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
