The National Research Competition provides funds for both collaborative and individual research projects. Research Contracts support collaborative projects involving multiple scholars or researchers who are U.S. citizens and hold the PhD, with a maximum award of $40,000. Research Grants support research projects conducted by individual scholars or researchers who are U.S. citizens and hold the PhD , with a maximum award of $20,000.
Research activity supported by a Contract or Grant may begin as early as March 1, 2019. Scholars and researchers should schedule their research activities so as to complete and submit all project requirements to NCEEER by September 30, 2020. Successful applicants will be required to submit a final report to NCEEER and may be asked to present the results of research and other programmatic experiences in a public forum sponsored by NCEEER and the Department of State. In addition, research reports submitted to NCEEER may be considered for publication in the journal Problems of Post-Communism.
