Ice Cream Social – Russian Flagship Program

The Russian Flagship is a federally funded program that provides opportunities for undergraduate students of any major to reach a professional level of competence in Russian by graduation. The program not only strives to increase students’ Russian language proficiency and intercultural competencies, but also links students’ intensive language study with their other academic interests and professional aspirations.No prior experience in Russian is required. 

As a student in the Russian Flagship Program, you will:

  • Reach a professional level of Russian in a prestigious program designed to complement the academic major(s) of your choice.
  • Become a global professional! Demonstrate your global competence and ability to work globally. Develop useful skills for any professional field.
  • Join a small, supportive community and have a place on campus to call home.
  • Study abroad twice, with scholarships exclusively for Russian Flagship students. Culminating overseas experience includes a professional internship.
  • Receive individual and group tutoring in Russian tailored to your personal language needs.
  • Distinguish yourself by taking advantage of a unique opportunity: UW-Madison hosts one of just six Russian Flagship Programs in the United States. The program provides numerous opportunities for using Russian outside of class.
