Folklore Village’s Annual Festival of Christmas and Midwinter Traditions

December 28, 2019 - January 1, 2020

This is not a CREECA event.

Each year, the Folklore Village in Dodgeville, Wisconsin chooses a few core cultural themes for their Midwinter Festival, and one of this year’s themes is Slavic and Balkan culture. In keeping with this theme, they have hired Sarah Jagoda Larsson and Sarina Partridge, vocal instructors and performers from the Twin Cities who specialize in Jewish and Slavic polyphonic singing from Eastern Europe. Sarah and Sarina will be leading vocal workshops throughout the festival week. The Folklore Village will also be hosting craft workshops on pysanky (Slavic egg decorating–December 29) and on Polish paper ornament making (December 30). Balkan folk dancer Michael Kuharski will also be joining them on December 30 for a Balkan dance workshop. Later that evening, the Folklore Village will be hosting a Polish Wigilia-style catered dinner and followed by a Balkan-themed party led by Michael Kuharski and Sarah and Sarina, who perform as Nanilo.

This event requires pre-registration. For more information, visit the Folklore Village’s website.
