The University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia (CREECA) and Russian Flagship Program invite UW-Madison students to apply for volunteer positions at Wisconsin’s ACTR Olympiada of Spoken Russian. The Olympiada is a competition for middle and high school students to demonstrate their proficiency speaking Russian; the event will take place from 11:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2023. POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Attend required training and orientation meetings (schedule TBD).
● Complete a criminal background check to ensure compliance with policies set by the UW-Madison Office of Youth Protection and Compliance pertaining to hosting minors for virtual campus events.
● Be available for a 2–4-hour shift between the hours of 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2023.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Current UW-Madison student (graduate or undergraduate) in good standing.
● Interest in working with students of Russian as a foreign language.
● Excellent organizational and communication skills.
POSITION DUTIES
● Coordinating Russian-language enrichment activities for Olympiada participants.
● Representing UW-Madison Russian language studies programs to Olympiada participants and their families.
● Assisting with preparation and clean-up.
● Aiding in event facilitation.
SCHEDULE AND SUPERVISORS
● Schedule: Training and orientation meetings will be held in April, with dates and times TBD depending on volunteers’ schedules. The total estimated time commitment for this position is 10 hours.
