Taking place from Sunday, April 9th to Wednesday, April 12th, 2023 at UT Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs, this conference will examine the history of media diplomacy efforts, especially during the Cold War, and the communications challenges today, particularly with disinformation/misinformation as an added aspect of warfare. Open to both established and aspiring scholars, the Slavic Connexion is currently accepting papers from professors, master’s and doctorate students, and postdocs who are actively studying global media broadly and/or analyzing its impacts on U.S. foreign policy efforts towards regions in crisis, international diplomacy, and democracy at large. They especially invite submissions from graduate students and scholars/journalists/media practitioners from (or currently based in) the Middle East, North Africa, China, Ukraine, Central Asia, East Asia, and Russia.
Please note that the deadline for all completed papers or proposal submissions is 23:59 PM EST on Friday, February 24th, 2023. More details can be found on the conference webpage here for those who are interested. Regular registration for those interested in attending the conference will open on Friday, January 20th, 2023. While the conference will primarily be an in-person experience, it will be accessible virtually for those unable to travel to Austin, Texas.
