The Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is pleased to invite you to submit paper proposals for a graduate student research conference on the study of Russia in the social sciences. CSEEES welcome submissions of high-quality empirical or theoretical research related to Russia in disciplines including, but not limited to, political science, media studies, sociology, and anthropology. CSEEES is particularly interested in papers on contentious politics, media and politics, and the dynamics of autocracy. Ph.D. students in and from Russia are especially encouraged to apply.
The conference will take place over Zoom on May 20, 2022. Participants will have 15-20 minutes to present their papers in English or Russian. Each presentation will be followed by feedback from a discussant and comments from the audience. The best papers will be eligible for awards designed to support further research.
Please send a brief abstract (in English or Russian) and 2-page CV to cseees@unc.edu. The deadline for submission is 6:00 PM EST on March 1, 2022. Applicants will be informed of their proposal status by March 15. Those accepted to present will be asked to submit a complete paper by May 10. Please direct questions regarding the conference to Bryce Hecht (bwhecht@unc.edu) and Elena Sirotkina (esirotkina@unc.edu).
